Other Vintage Silver

While coins struck in recent years and preserved for collectors may show the most luster, many collectors consider character, or history, in their collections more important. Vintage silver coins may be pieces from iconic series, particularly significant mintages, or sets from historically significant years. These coins provide connections with the past, numismatic or otherwise, in a very real sense as they were often pieces that would’ve been used in everyday commerce. The vintage coins that we offer change from time to time, but we always have plenty of options available for collectors looking for pieces that connect past and present. 50 Cent Seated Liberty

Much of the 1850s featured Seated Liberty coinage that was designed by Charles Barber. We currently have a variety of these Seated Liberty coins available, including 50 Cent pieces from the Carson City Mint that are in Extremely Fine condition. The Seated Liberty coins date from 1839-1891, inclusive of the Civil War period.

One of the most fascinating pieces that we have available, not just among vintage coins but among all of them, is an 1858-O Seated Liberty Half Dollar, which was recovered from the SS Republic. The ship, which was previously known as the SS Tennessee, the CSS Tennessee, the USS Tennessee, and the USS Mobile, wrecked 100 miles southeast of Savannah, Georgia in a hurricane on October 25, 1865. The ship’s unique history combined with the date of its demise, which took place in the year that the Civil War ended, make the coins recovered from it, prized among the collectors who manage to get them.

Vintage Coin Sets

Vintage coin sets are some of the most popular options in this category. Some examples of these that we currently offer are our 1929 Stock Market Crash Set, the 1991 Gulf War Set, and sets from each of the years in which the United States was involved in World War II. These sets include one of each of the coins released in these historically important years. The 1929 set is of particular interest to collectors with a passion for monetary and economic history due to the important role that monetary policy played in the creation of the crisis.

Another unique set is the 1935 Braddock Cheap Seat Collection. The set consists of 20 coins that total $2.30. This was the cost of a cheap seat to the famous James Braddock upset over Max Baer.
