2021 South Korea 1-oz Silver Tiger Medal Gem BU
Act Now to Get Your Paws On These Adorable Silver Tigers
As this exquisite piece proves, there’s much more to Korea than K-Pop boy bands! Here we have the fourth release in South Korea’s annual Silver Tiger Medal that combines stunning images with cultural icons for a limited-edition release that will have collectors just itching to get their paws on it!
Tigers, Heroes And Culture Oh My!
Struck in a full ounce of highly pure 99.9% fine silver by KOMSCO, the official mint of South Korea, the medal features a new one-year-only design of a Siberian Tiger cub resting beside a patch of bamboo. In the background is an image of Ojukheon, the birthplace of Yi I, a prominent Korean Confucian scholar from the Joseon Dynasty. A national hero, Yi’s portrait also appears on the country’s 5,000 Won note. Ojukheon is located in the city of Gangneung, which was the site for all of the ice-related events during the 2018 Winter Olympics. Just to the left of the cub you’ll see the word “GANGNEUNG” inscribed within the bamboo stalks. The design is completed with the inscription “KOREAN TIGER 2021” and a paw print.
The Only Tigers Left In Korea
When South Korea decided to launch a one-ounce silver bullion medal series in 2018, it came as no surprise that the theme chosen was the Siberian Tiger. An endangered animal that is found today almost exclusively in Eastern Russia, its range once extended throughout the Korean peninsula where it is integral to Korea’s creation myth. Tragically, no tigers are believed to roam the mountains of Korea anymore and their total population numbers only in the hundreds. Fortunately for you, South Korea’s tiger prowls again on this beautiful silver medal. Each comes in gorgeous Gem Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition, so it looks as fresh and crisp as the day it left the mint. Plus, each has an added security feature —a lenticular design struck into the silver itself. Visible on the medal’s reverse, the lenticular feature will display either “Ag” or “999” depending on the viewing angle.
Reduced Mintage Means Thousands Will Be Left Empty-Handed
Just 10,000 of these wonderful Silver Tiger Bullion Medals have been struck for worldwide release! That’s a massive reduction from 2020’s mintage of 33,000 medals. A reduction that means two out of every three people who acquired last year’s release will miss out on the 2021 edition! Combined with its charming image, proximity to Chinese collectors, appeal to wildlife enthusiasts, and attractiveness to silver stackers around the world and it all adds up to a relatively small mintage. Add one or more to you cart now!
