The game of Monopoly was invented by Charles Darrow in 1933. Using Atlantic City street names, Darrow created his game as a way to support his family through the Great Depression. Darrow copyrighted Monopoly late in 1933 and the following year sold the game to Parker Brothers in a deal that saw him become a millionaire.
