He eloquently criticized government Indian policy, asserted the authority of the chiefs, and cultivated contacts with eastern reformers. His legacy lives on today in the presence of Henry Red Cloud, a fifth-generation descendant of Red Cloud and the current Chief of the Oglala Lakota Tribe.
