Queen Wilhelmina Dutch Coins
Due to rampant inflation following World War I, the cost of silver skyrocketed and forced many countries to curtail its use in their coins. One such country was the Netherlands, which reduced the silver content in its coinage to 72% silver and changed the designs as well. The obverse of the new coins featured Queen Wilhelmina, who reigned over the Netherlands from 1890-1948, making her the longest serving monarch in Dutch history.

From Youthful Queen To An Indomitable Symbol Of Strength
Princess Wilhelmina Helena Pailing Marie of the Netherlands was born on August 31, 1880. As the last surviving heir of the 400-year Orange-Nassau line, she was allowed to ascend to the throne as queen in 1890 at the age of 10 upon the repeal of a law forbidding female rulers. She went on to rule for 58 years—longer than any other Dutch monarch—before abdicating in 1948. Queen Wilhelmina was influential in both World Wars, maintaining neutrality during WWI and serving as a symbol of strength and unity for Dutch resistance fighters during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands during World War II.
