2022 Japan 135-gm Silver Cherry Blossom Viewing Colorized Medal
Japan’s 2022 Silver Cherry Blossom Medal Is Ready To Bloom In Your Collection
Each spring, Japan celebrates its cherry blossom viewing festival. Known as Sakura, it’s a time of white-and-pink cherry blossoms bursting all across the county and covering the ground underneath the trees like a layer of snow. This is an incredibly important part of Japanese culture, and dates back nearly 1,000 years. The festival takes place all over Japan, with more than 1,000 locations hosting celebrations. People across Japan celebrated the peak cherry blossom viewing season this year without COVID-19 restrictions in place for the first time in two years! At many of these locations, visitors can secure special Cherry Blossom Viewing Coins & Medals from the Japan Mint. Among those pieces released in 2022 was this incredible one-year-only Silver Viewing Medal!
Cherry Blossom Viewing Medals Struck In Highly Pure Silver
The significance for Japan’s reverent devotion to cherry blossoms goes back several centuries. For the Japanese people, cherry blossoms represent the fragility of life—a poignant reminder that life, while very beautiful, is also tragically short. Though not legal tender, this spectacular medal was struck in 135 grams—more than 4.3 ounces—of highly pure 99.9% fine silver! This beautiful medal measures 55 mm in diameter and features the Fukurokuju, 2022’s Blossom of the Year. The medal’s obverse features a young woman wearing a crown of Fukurokuju and a dress patterned with the blossom. Behind her is a stained glass window with panes cast in the shape of the Fukurokuju blossom. Her lovely young face has been rendered in detail so exquisite you’ll almost expect her to open her eyes and smile at you! The medal’s reverse features a full-color image of a bouquet of Fukurokuju cherry blossoms along with the year date and inscriptions in Japanese that read, “Cherry Blossom Viewing,” “Fukurokuju” and “Made by the Japan Mint.”
Uncirculated Condition & Original Mint Packaging
Each medal also comes in crisp, Uncirculated (UNC) condition with razor-sharp details that as fresh as the day they left the mint! Each will also come in its original packaging from the Japan Mint that consists of a clamshell display case shipped inside a box decorated with the medal’s design.
