Design Symbolizes Combined Strength Of Great Britain & America

In the design, both the Lion and Eagle are depicted facing right, symbolizing the combined strength of the two nations now coexisting along and supporting one another. The legend “THE LION AND THE EAGLE” is inscribed above the design and is surrounded by a pair of laurel leaves. The 2024 year-date and Mercanti’s initials—JM—are located just above the Lion’s paw that extends towards the coin’s edge. In addition, the design also includes a special Liberty Bell privy mark to further symbolize the history and bond of the two nations. The Liberty Bell was made in 1752 by the London-based firm Lester and Pack (later renamed the Whitechapel Bell Foundry) for the Pennsylvania State House, now known as Independence Hall.
