Over 310 Years Old, Struck in 92.5% Silver

How this historical coin from Great Britain has been preserved in this condition after more than three centuries is truly a mystery. But it’s a mystery that will benefit just one lucky collector who secures it first and can add it to their collection of vintage foreign coins because there is only one available.

“Anne By The Grace Of God”

Struck in highly pure 92.5% Sterling silver by the London Mint, this Shilling’s obverse features an effigy of a wild-haired Queen Anne looking left, with an inscription that reads: ANNA DEI GRATIA — Latin for “Anne by the Grace of God.” The reverse features a crowned cruciform shield with individual arms, with plain angles. The Shilling is no longer a denomination used in Great Britain, but during Anne’s time they were a common denomination and there were 20 Shillings in a Pound. This coin was minted after the Scottish Parliament and the English Parliament united to form the Parliament of Great Britain on May 1, 1707. The new Parliament of Great Britain was based in London’s Palace of Westminster, which was already the home of the English Parliament.

What really makes this coin stand out, however, is its amazing high grade. The quality is plain to see, which is why the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) has certified and graded this coin as being in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-63 (MS63) condition. An absolutely astounding grade for a coin that is more than 310 years old! This grade is truly amazing for a coin this old. Act quickly to add it to your collection.

The Misery Of Queen Anne

Anne, who became queen upon the death of her brother-in-law King William III on March 8, 1702, was immediately popular with the people, especially after she distanced herself from William saying in her first speech to the English Parliament, “As I know my heart to be entirely English, I can very sincerely assure you there is not anything you can expect or desire from me which I shall not be ready to do for the happiness and prosperity of England.”

Unfortunately, Anne had a difficult life and was never in the best of health. The last of the Stuart line, she was the second daughter of James II and became Queen at the age of 37. On the day of her coronation, she was suffering a bad attack of gout and had to be carried to the ceremony. Her husband, Prince George of Denmark, was a roaring alcoholic who died just six years after Anne ascended to the throne. Anne also suffered severe emotional stress after becoming pregnant 17 times, of which just one child survived — and that child, William, died of hydrocephalus in 1700 at the age of 11. Having endured a lifetime of ill health, Anne suffered a stroke in 1714 and died when she was just 49.
