2021 Australia $100 1-oz Gold Coat of Arms BU
First Release in Australia’s Coat of Arms Series
Even if you are not a descendent form a noble family, you’re probably familiar with what a coat of arms is. These detailed symbols are used to identify families or individuals with designs that usually include a shield, crest, helmet, motto, and more. Most countries also employ a national coat of arms as part of their great seals. Created with familiar symbols unique to each nation, official coats of arms and are often used as the main symbol on passport covers. One of the most distinctive coats of arms is from Australia where the kangaroo and Emu can be seen supporting a shield, depicting the symbols of Australia’s six states. Those native Australian animals have long been the stars of their individual coin series, and now they have joined forces to launch the first release in Australia’s Coat of Arms series of gold and silver coins.
Australian Heraldry Struck in Pure Gold
Struck in a full ounce of 99.99% pure gold, this coin is a marvelous addition to The Royal Australian Mint’s legacy of numismatic perfection. It uses parts of the Australian Coat of Arms as separate elements in the overall obverse and reverse designs. The reverse deign depicts an image of a mother kangaroo with a joey in its pouch against a backdrop of thriving vegetation comprising the floral emblems of each Australian state. To the left of the kangaroo is the Commonwealth Star with six points representing Australia’s six states and the seventh point representing Australia’s territories. The coin’s obverse shows an emu hovering over a nest of unhatched eggs against a background of wattle that is yet to blossom. The combination of the two emu and wattle represents potential. The obverse also includes an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the Commonwealth Star.
