Queen Elizabeth II continues to rack up firsts. She is the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch, she’s the longest-serving female head of state in world history, she’s the world’s oldest living, and longest-reigning, current monarch, and she’s the oldest and longest-serving current head of state. While she’s celebrating her Platinum Jubilee in 2022, The Queen has had a lifetime of jubilee celebrations over the years, including this coin released in 1977 to celebrate her Silver Jubilee.

The 25th Anniversary Of The Queen’s Ascension To The Throne

This legal-tender crown was struck to the exact same specification as today’s £5 coins and is one of just four decimal crown coins ever struck. Its obverse is reminiscent of the 1953 Coronation Crown, with an equestrian portrait of The Queen in Guards uniform. Its reverse is unusual for its lack of inscription, instead having an eagle-shaped vessel and ceremonial spoon used to anoint the sovereign at the coronation. At 38.61 mm in diameter, it’s large silver-dollar size perfectly exhibits the beautiful designs crafted by Arnold Machin, a British artist and sculptor who designed the royal portrait featured on the United Kingdom’s decimal coins issued from 1968 to 1984.
