What is a US Quarter Made of?

By GovMint :
The composition of a circulating U.S. quarter has evolved over time. Currently, quarters are made of a cupro-nickel composition that contains 91.67% copper and 8.33% nickel. However, before 1964, quarters were crafted from 90% silver and 10% copper. The shift in materials was primarily driven by the increasing cost of silver and the desire to reduce production expenses, marking a significant transition in the history of U.S. coinage.
Silver proof versions of quarters issued by the United States Mint are meticulously crafted from 99.9% fine silver. These special silver editions are typically included in annual Silver Proof Set releases and do not circulate.
