What are Gold Doubloons?

What are Gold Doubloons?

By GovMint :

Gold Doubloons were Spanish gold coins that played a huge role in the economy of Spain and its colonies from the mid-16th  to the mid-19th  century. The term "doubloon" comes from the Spanish verb "dobla," which means "to double," apt as these coins were worth twice as much as the usual type of Spanish coinage at the time, the pistole. Typically made from 22-karat gold, doubloons were widely used in Spanish territories such as New Spain, Peru, and Nueva Granada, but could also be found in other parts of Europe, such as France and Germany.

Doubloons are often associated with pirate lore and treasure, frequently depicted in popular culture as part of hidden pirate hoards.
