Is Gold Bullion Different from the Gold We Wear?

Is Gold Bullion Different from the Gold We Wear?

By GovMint :

Gold bullion and the gold that is used in jewelry differ in terms of both purity and purpose. Gold bullion, often in the form of bars or coins, is typically 99.9%-99.99% pure. Gold bullion is prized for its precious metal content alone, rather than any artistic or aesthetic qualities.

In contrast, the gold used in jewelry is usually alloyed with other less precious metals to strengthen its durability since pure 24 karat gold can be somewhat fragile and susceptible to nicks and dings. Typical purities for gold jewelry include 18K (75% gold) and 14K (58.3% gold), which are less pure than most gold bullion products. Jewelry gold is primarily prized for its craftsmanship, design, and brand, in addition to its precious metal content.
