Are Silver Dollars Still Made?
By GovMint :
Silver dollars are still being produced, but their purpose and production have evolved over the years. The United States Mint has shifted its focus from minting silver dollars for general circulation to creating these coins primarily for collectors and precious metal enthusiasts. The last true silver dollars, meaning they were minted from 90% pure silver, intended for general circulation, were Silver Peace Dollars which were last minted in 1935.
While modern iterations of the silver dollar, like Silver Eagle coins, modern 99.9% fine Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars, and commemorative silver dollars, are considered legal tender, they are not intended for everyday transactions. Instead, these silver dollars are issued as commemorative items, collectibles, or even bullion pieces.
