Are Gold Coins Pure Gold?

Are Gold Coins Pure Gold?

By GovMint :

Gold coins can vary in purity. Many modern gold bullion coins, such as the Canadian Maple Leaf and the American Gold Buffalo, are made with 99.99% pure gold, often called "four nines" fine. However, not all gold coins are this pure. Many coins, like the American Gold Eagle and the South African Krugerrand, are made with 22-karat gold, which is approximately 91.67% pure. These coins are alloyed with other metals, such as copper, to enhance their durability, making them more resistant to wear and tear since pure gold is quite soft and vulnerable to nicks.
