Proof-Like Morgan Silver Dollar Sets

The Morgan Silver Dollar, struck from 1878 to 1904, and again for one final time in 1921, is perhaps the most widely collected vintage silver dollar of all time. It was THE silver dollar of the American Wild West and saw the start of a new century.

It’s no surprise, then, that collectors are always looking for the finest Morgans they can get their hands on, and among those that stand head and shoulders above the rest are those designated as being in Proof-Like (PL) condition! These highly coveted coins are often the first several struck with new or newly polished dies, giving them a sharp, mirrored look with incredible eye appeal that allows these beauties to clearly stand out from the coins struck later with the same dies.

We recently purchased a small hoard of nearly 40 Proof-Like Morgan Silver Dollars, each graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) as being in fabulous Choice Uncirculated Mint State-63 Proof-Like (MS63 PL) condition. Finding even small groups of Proof-Like Morgans can be difficult, making this a rare find!

Dated between 1879 and 1904, these coins are incredible! And now you can secure a nine-coin set that includes at least one coin struck by the Philadelphia, New Orleans and San Francisco Mints. Plus, each set will include some of the best struck Morgans in the series, including one minted in San Francisco from 1879 to 1882 – the years and mint that experts agree represent the best-struck coins in the series – as well as the highly coveted 1904-O Morgan minted in New Orleans – the last of its kind struck at the New Orleans Mint.

Only five total sets are available, so secure these amazing Proof-Like Morgans now before they’re all gone!

  • AMERICA’S MOST POPULAR COIN – The Morgan Silver Dollar – so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan – has stood the test of time. Struck from 1878-1904 and again in 1921, it was the coin of America’s “Wild West” and jingled in the coin purses of gamblers, gunfighters, soldiers and dance hall girls.
  • CLASSIC DESIGNS – Morgan’s historic design depicts a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings. The model used for Liberty was Miss Anna Williams of Philadelphia, who Morgan declared to have the most perfect feminine profile he had ever seen.
  • STRUCK IN GLEAMING AMERICAN SILVER – Struck in 26.73 grams of 90% fine silver from the famous Comstock Lode, the Morgan Silver Dollar is a big coin measuring 38.1 mm in diameter.
  • LEGAL TENDER SILVER DOLLAR – Morgans were $1 legal tender and struck during the heyday of America’s Wild West era where coins were overwhelmingly preferred over paper currency.
  • HIGH-GRADE UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – These Morgan Silver Dollars were graded by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) as being in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-63 (MS63) condition.
  • ADDED PROOF-LIKE DESIGNATION – Even though these coins weren’t wasn't struck as proofs, their brilliant and reflective finish has earned them a “Proof-Like” designation from PCGS.
  • THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING MORGANS – While millions of Morgan Silver Dollars were struck from 1878 through 1921, massive silver meltings and the ravages of time have taken their toll. Today, coin experts believe that only 15% of all Morgans ever struck remain in existence!
