These Five Jefferson Nickel Errors Escaped The Mint!

Of course, you’re familiar with the popular Jefferson Nickel, the five-cent coin was first struck by the United States Mint in 1938 when it replaced the Buffalo Nickel. It was issued with the same design until 2004, the copper-nickel coin featuring a profile of Founding Father and third U.S. President Thomas Jefferson on the obverse while the reverse showed Monticello, Jefferson’s home in Virginia, which he designed himself. Here’s a scare and unique set of error coins that puts a new spin on the coin that honored the “Sage of Monticello.”

“Freakish” Coins That Are Highly Desirable

An error coin is one that was struck incorrectly by The Mint. Error coins come in scores of shapes, sizes, and types—and the sheer variety of minted errors adds excitement and uniqueness to collecting them. Mint errors are not common. The U.S. Mint has strict quality control, and it’s not often that errors escape into circulation. Here you have a five-piece set of Off-Center error Jefferson Nickels struck between 1999 and 2001. An Off-Center coin is produced when a blank planchet is struck once, off-center, near the edge. This results in a coin which is not circular. Coins like this often have a freakish appearance with various amounts of visible blank planchet space.

Each of these Jefferson Nickel Off-Center error coins comes certified, graded, and authenticated by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), one of the world’s leading third-party grading services. You set includes:

No date 65% Off-Center graded in Choice Uncirculated Mint State-63 (MS63) condition.
