First Five Years Of America’s Popular Silver Eagle!

In honor of the 35th Anniversary of the American Silver Eagle, the United States Mint made the first ever change to the coin’s reverse design midway through 2021—switching from the Heraldic Eagle design created by 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint John Mercanti to the Eagles Portrait design by artist Emily Damstra. That means, from the coin’s introduction in 1986 through the last minting in 2021, there were 36 years of American Silver Eagles with the Heraldic Eagle reverse. This collection contains the all-important FIRST FIVE YEARS of those American Silver Eagles!

Beautifully Struck At The San Francisco Mint

Each legal-tender $1 bullion coin was struck in a full ounce of highly pure 99.9% fine silver at the U.S. branch mint in San Francisco Mint, which struck the coin from 1986 until 1998 before production was moved to Philadelphia and West Point in 1999 and 2000. Since 2001, the Uncirculated Silver Eagles have been produced solely at West Point—all with no mintmark.

The Official Silver Bullion Coin Of The United States

Why is the American Silver Eagle one of the most collected coins in the world? Is it because of its United States provenance and guaranteed silver purity? Or maybe it’s due to its three-plus decades of history, originating in the Reagan administration as a way to spur private silver ownership? Perhaps it’s a result of the coin’s stunning combination of Adolph A. Weinman’s classic Walking Liberty with John Mercanti’s Heraldic Eagle? There’s only one clear answer: It’s because of ALL those reasons—and more! Since 1986, the American Silver Eagle has been the official silver bullion coin of the United States. Despite silver values constantly changing, the demand for U.S. Silver Eagle coins has grown steadily over the decades and today is at an all-time high.
