1861–1865 Indian Head Cent & Token 6-pc Set NGC XF45–MS62 Brown
Spectacular Civil War Indian Head Cent 6-Piece Set With EXTRAS!
Attention Civil War devotees! This is an extremely difficult set to put together, so difficult, in fact, that we’ve been able to assemble just one set! If you want the historic and highly coveted items in the set to be part of your Civil War collection, you need to act quickly.
Historic Small-Cent Civil War Currency
In this six-piece set, you can secure one Indian Head Cent from each year of the war from 1861 to 1865. Plus, each coin has been certified, graded, and encapsulated by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) in grades ranging from Extremely Fine-45 to Uncirculated Mint State-62 (XF45–MS62) condition. Here’s what you’ll get:
- 1861 Indian Head Copper-Nickel Cent. This coin was issued during the first year of the Civil War, which began a month after Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated. It will come in Extremely Fine-45 (XF45) condition.
- 1862 Indian Head Copper-Nickel Cent. This coin was struck the same year as the major Union victories at Shiloh and Antietam. It will come in About Uncirculated-58 (AU58) condition.
- 1863 Indian Head Copper-Nickel Cent. This coin was struck the same year as the pivotal Battle of Gettysburg and President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. It will come in About Uncirculated-58 (AU58) condition.
- 1864 Indian Head Copper-Nickel Cent. The coin was struck the year President Lincoln appointed Ulysses S. Grant as Commander in Chief of the Union armies. It will come in Uncirculated Mint-State-61 (MS61) condition.
- 1865 Indian Head Bronze Cent. This coin was struck during the last year of the Civil War when General Lee surrendered to General Grant in April, ending the bloody Civil War. It will come in Uncirculated Mint-State-62 (MS62) condition. It also comes with a Brown (BN) designation. Natural oxidation affects all bronze and copper coins over time, transforming their original orange/red color to a dark tone. To accurately grade these coins, one needs to describe the surface color. A “BN” or Brown grade means the surface has reacted with the atmosphere to the extent that the coin is almost entirely a chocolate brown color.
Historic Small-Cent Civil War Currency
In addition to the Indian Head Cents, you’ll also receive a vintage 1861–1865 Civil War Token. When the American Civil War broke out in 1861, civilians across the country began hoarding their coins, quickly hiding them away in case the economy collapsed. This fear-driven hoarding was so widespread that by January of 1862, gold had virtually disappeared from circulation. Silver and copper-nickel coins soon followed. For the first time in United States history, no federal coins were in circulation! To help alleviate this lack of coinage, individual merchants began striking their own “coins”—Civil War Tokens that could circulate and carry a value of one cent. This copper token featuring Liberty on the obverse and “Army-Navy” within a wreath on the reverse comes graded by NGC in Gem Uncirculated Mint State-65 Red (MS65 RD) condition. The RD designation means that this token still has 95% of its original red color.
A Host Of Historic Bonus Extras
Also included is an 1864 $10 Confederate paper currency note in Fine to Very Fine (F–VF) condition, a vintage Harper’s Ferry newspaper, a Civil War era Railroad Stock Certificate, photos of Abraham Lincoln and Stonewall Jackson, a Confederate Bond note, a copy of the Gettysburg Address, an authentic Civil War bullet in a pouch, and a one-ounce silver Stonewall Jackson medal. This spectacular set will come beautifully housed in a wooden presentation case and includes a storybook on Civil War coins and currency.
Like we said, just one set is available to grab it now before someone else beats you to it!
