Designed by German-born American sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, these coins were affectionately known as “Walkers.” They are a staple of American history and are even more popular today than when they circulated during the first half of the 20th Century. The obverse depicts Miss Liberty walking toward the sun, and the reverse portrays an eagle facing left with wings outspread. This set includes four key-date Walking Liberty Half Dollars: 1918, the last year of World War I and only the third year of issue; 1929, struck the year of the Great Stock Market Crash; 1933-S, the ONLY silver coin struck by the U.S. Mint in 1933; and 1947, the last year of the series.
