Mercury Dimes Four-Piece Decades Set
With one of the most classic designs in United States coin history, Mercury Dimes were minted from late 1916 to 1945. That design by Adolph A. Weinman was said to represent “Freedom of Thought,” a sense of liberty that emboldened us as we fought against the AXIS Powers in World War II. They were called Mercury Dimes because the image of Liberty on the obverse resembled Mercury, the Roman god of trade, profit, and commerce.
These four-piece sets of 90% fine silver Mercury Dimes include one from each of the four decades these coins were minted—the 1910s, 1920s, 1930 and 1940s—and each coin will come in nice, Good to Very Good (G–VG) condition, meaning they were circulated and still have complete details and exhibit minor wear. Dates and mintmarks our choice.
One Of America’s Most Beloved Coins
In the century since it was first issued, the Mercury Dime has gone on to become one of America’s most beloved coins. In addition to its iconic design of Lady Liberty with a winged Phrygian cap that makes her look like the Roman god Mercury, the coin’s reverse depicts a fasces symbolizing unity and strength, and an olive branch, signifying peace. The image was so popular that when the United States Mint struck its first Palladium Eagle coin in 2017 it selected Weinman’s design!
