Here Are Your Barber Quarters!

Struck from 1892 to 1916, the Barber Quarter gets its name from designer Charles E. Barber, the United States Mint’s 6th Chief Engraver. Barber is one of the most famous and prolific coin designers in U.S. Mint history, having designed a full range of circulating coinage in his day. Barber was part of a panel that rejected more than 300 designs from the public and other designers for new American coinage—and then chose his own design! In this offer you can obtain four Barber Quarters that circulated during the Turn of the Century at a time when one might need two that combine for a face value of $1 to buy a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs, a pound of butter, sugar or coffee, or a pound of bacon.

“B” Is For Barber

Struck in highly pure 90% fine silver, the coin boasts a classic American design that features Liberty with a triple headdress consisting of a cap, a laurel wreath, and a tiny coronet inscribed with her name. She is also surrounded by 13 stars, along with the designer’s initial “B” for Barber that’s visible on the truncation of Miss Liberty’s neck. The reverse is based on the Great Seal of the United States and portrays an eagle with wings spread holding an olive branch and three arrows.
