40-Piece Roll Of Vintage Jefferson Nickels — Over 55 Years Old!
In 1938, the United States Mint began striking a new nickel honoring Founding Father and President Thomas Jefferson to replace the Buffalo Nickel. The new coin featured the bust of Jefferson on the obverse, and his home at Monticello on the reverse. Your 40-piece roll will include a wide variety of key dates and mint marks. Some of the coins include:
- At least one from the Denver Mint (D), the San Francisco Mint (S) and the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark).
- At least one War Nickel struck from 1942–1945 in 35% fine silver instead of nickel to help the war effort during World War II.
- At least one coin for every decade — the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.
Felix Schlag’s Original Portrait Of Thomas Jefferson
For most people, the portrait of President Thomas Jefferson is the only image they’ve ever seen on a nickel. And who could blame them — the image of Jefferson as designed by Felix Schlag appeared on America’s 5-cent piece from 1938 to 2004. Jefferson’s portrait underwent a change in 2005, but it is still the portrait of this Founding Father and the author of the Declaration of Independence that remains on the nickel to this day, a run of more than 80 years for the Jefferson Nickel — and still going!
Each coin available here will come in Very Good to Extremely Fine (VG–XF) condition, a grade that means these coins were used in commerce, though we’ll leave it up to your imagination to decide on who used them and for what purpose. Quantities are limited so act now!
