Show Your Patriotism With The U.S. Mint’s Armed Forces Silver Medals

The United States Coast Guard, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force are vital components of America’s armed forces. Whether it’s defending the nation’s shores, patrolling its skies, rooting out terrorists on foreign soil, or conducting toy drives for children during the holiday season, the men and women of these military organizations have earned the respect and gratitude of an appreciative nation. To pay tribute to these vitally important branches of America’s Armed Forces, the U.S. Mint has released an impressive series of commemorative silver medals as part of its Armed Forces Medals Program that are loaded with enough detail to satisfy any military history buff!

Silver Medals From Philadelphia’s “Mother Mint”

Though not legal-tender coins, these medals were each struck in a highly pure 99.9% fine silver by the “Mother Mint” in Philadelphia. And, at one-and-a-half inches in diameter, their large size provides ample room to showcase the intricate designs. What’s more, each Silver Military Medal available in this offer comes in Matte Uncirculated condition with razor-sharp details that are as fresh and crisp as the day they left the mint! These patriotic medals feature exciting design that pay tribute to America’s armed forces:

  • THE U.S. MARINE CORPS MEDAL features a trio of Marines storming a beach following a successful amphibious landing. Accurate in every detail, one Marine lies in a prone position in the foreground providing covering firing while his buddies top the crest of a hill. A U.S. warship rests offshore in the background. Topping off the design is the famous quote from General Alfred Gray, the 29th Marine commandant that summed up the lethal skill of every Leatherneck that serves in the Corps: “EVERY MARINE A RIFLEMAN.” The reverse design shows the familiar Marine Corps Eagle, Globe & Anchor emblem encircled by a rope border. Its core values, “HONOR,” “COURAGE,” and “COMMITMENT,” and the Marine Corps motto “SEMPER FIDELIS” (always faithful) are inscribed around the outer border.
  • THE U.S. NAVY MEDAL depicts the modern U.S. Navy destroyer John Paul Jones slicing through the water while the legendary USS Constitution sails behind it. Soaring above the two ships in the background is a formation of F-18 Hornets. Employed as both a fighter and attack aircraft, the F-18 Hornet is an all-weather supersonic, twin-engine, carrier-capable, multirole combat aircraft used by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES NAVY” AND “DON’T GIVE UP THE SHI.” The reverse design features a line of sharp-looking sailors dressed in crisp white uniforms standing at attention in a “Manning the Rail” ceremony while the American flag flies in the background. Inscribed around the border of the design are the Navy’s core values: “HONOR,” “COURAGE,” and “COMMITMENT.”
  • THE U.S. AIR FORCE MEDAL depicts a fighter jet pilot in his cockpit looking above as a pair of F-22 Raptor fighter jets soar past. An inscription that reads “U.S. AIR FORCE” hangs in the clouds that hover in the background. A stylized landscape can be seen below. Built by Lockheed Martin, the F-22 was originally designed to combat Soviet warplanes in air-to-air combat. The tough warbird made its combat debut over Syria in 2014 and has since been deployed elsewhere in the Middle East. The reverse design features the three spires of the Air Force Memorial surrounded by members of the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Inscribed around the border of the design are the core values of the Air Force: “INTEGRITY FIRST,” “SERVICE BEFORE SELF” and “EXCELLENCE IN ALL WE DO.”
  • THE U.S. COAST GUARD MEDAL shows a Coast Guard cutter speeding head-on toward the viewer. The inscriptions “U.S. COAST GUARD,” and the Coast Guard motto “SEMPER PARATUS,” (always ready) arc around the upper border. The hull number—753—identifies the vessel as the USCGC Hamilton (WMSL-753). The reverse design features a life preserver ring and the racing stripe mark, which is found on almost all Coast Guard craft. The racing stripes are depicted with a heraldic hatching tradition to indicate color, with horizontal lines indicating the color blue and vertical lines indicating red. The Coast Guard emblem, which is part of the racing stripe mark, is also in the center. Inscribed around the border of the design are the core values of the Coast Guard: “HONOR,” “RESPECT,” and “DEVOTION TO DUTY.”
