1934–1939 Nazi Germany Reichsmark & Reichspfennig 3-pc Set
Scarce Nazi Coins In A Wooden Box!
This three-piece set of coins represents a time when all of Europe was contending with the threat of world war due to a dictator’s ravenous appetite to expand his country’s power and influence. No, we’re not talking about Russian strongman Vladimir Putin, we’re talking about der Führer, Nazi Germany’s infamous Adolf Hitler. These coins were struck in the 1930s after Hitler and the Nazi party came to power and began Europe’s—and the world’s—inexorable march to the conflagration know as World War II.
The coins in the set include:
- 1934 GERMANY 5 REICHSMARK SILVER POTSDAM CHURCH: Initially, this stately silver coin was intended to be released in 1934 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Potsdam Garrison Church, an impressive structure built during the reign of Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm I in the 1730s. Never one to miss a chance to spread Nazi ideologue, Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler turned the coin into a first anniversary celebration of Nazi rule. While the coin’s reverse features the front of the historic Potsdam Garrison Church, it’s the obverse where it shows its true colors in the form a Nazi German Eagle flanked by a pair of dreaded swastikas. A further message of Nazi propaganda was added to the coin’s edge where an inscription reads GEMEINNUTZ GEHT VOR EIGENNUTZ, German for “Common good takes priority over self-interest.”
- 1936–1939 GERMANY 5 & 10 REICHSPFENNIG: These coins were the World War II pocket change of Nazi Germany and were struck by the Third Reich during the late 1930s after the Nazis seized power and before Germany invaded Poland to start World War II. Each bears the Nazi Party’s instantly recognizable emblem: the dreaded eagle and swastika within wreath. Minted at in the early days of Nazi rule when the Nazis annexed Austria and the occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1938 and 1939 as well as other territorial demands made by Hitler that were granted through a policy of appeasement intended to prevent al-out war. Much like how the Nazi’s reign of terror spread across Europe, so too did these coins as young goose-stepping soldiers brought these coins with them.
The 5 Reichsmark was struck in 13.8 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver, and the 5 & 10 Reichspfennig coins were struck in aluminum-bronze for just four years—essentially until the Germans invaded Poland—which makes them highly sought-after Third Reich coins. Additionally, the Reichsmark Potsdam Church coin is one of only 4 million—out of 80 million minted—that feature the 1934 year date! All three coins will come beautifully housed in a wooden presentation box and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Hold World War II-Era History In Your Hands
Germany’s Third Reich—the so-called “Thousand-Year Reich”—was in power for barely 12 years. But during that short time, from 1933 to 1945, it exacted a catastrophic toll on the entire world. Known to history as “Nazi Germany,” this period began on January 30, 1933, when Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor. Before the decade was out, Hitler initiated World War II by invading Poland on September 1, 1939, starting an eventual Götterdämmerung that would plunge Germany and most of Europe into years of chaos that have lasting effects even to this day. Following the war, many of these coins were lost, confiscated, or destroyed making securing even one of them an incredible find! Hold history in your hands from a time when America’s “Greatest Generation” helped defeat one of the world’s greatest evils.
