The Susan B. Anthony Dollar remains a significant coin in United States history. The prevailing theory is that it was too close in size to a U.S. quarter. A situation that caused confusion at cash registers and resulted in an overall rejection of the coin by people across the country who didn’t accept it as their new currency. Perhaps in response to the public’s disdain for the Susan B. Anthony Dollar, the U.S. Mint struck if for only three years from 1979 to 1981 and then for one final time in 1999 in anticipation for public demand leading up to the release of the Sacagawea Dollar in 2000. All told, it ended by being the nation’s shortest-lived coin series.
