It proved to be so popular, however, that the U.S. Mint has issued it every year since. Originally struck in silver, the precious metal was eliminated entirely from the coin beginning in 1971. • 2000 MASSACHUSETTS STATE QUARTER – This coin is the sixth release in the U.S. Mint’s 50 States Quarter Program and hails from Kennedy’s home state of Massachusetts. It features the likeness of the celebrated Minuteman of the American Revolution against an outline of the state. Kennedy represented Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1947 to 1953 and served the state in the U.S. Senate from 1953 to 1960.
• 2015 JOHN F. KENNEDY PRESIDENTIAL DOLLAR – This coin was part of the U.S. Mint’s Presidential $1 Coin Program that began in 2007. Since 2012, the Mint has produced these coins in limited numbers exclusively for collectors. The Kennedy Presidential Dollar was released in 2015 and was met with popular public acclaim, demonstrating that even though more than 50 years had passed since his death, JFK was, and still is, one of the nation’s most popular and beloved presidents.
