Marking 60 Years Since JFK Was Assassinated

November 2023 marks 60 years since the tragic assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Many don’t know that the design on the obverse of these Half Dollars released to honor JFK was hand-picked by the president’s wife Jackie Kennedy! The initial Kennedy Half Dollar was struck in highly pure 90% fine silver in 1964, then the Mint reduced the silver content to 40% in 1965 in both its Proof and Mint sets—where it stayed until 1971, when the Mint again changed the content to clad.

Complete Silver Kennedy Mint Mark Set

Here you get a three-piece set of 40% silver Kennedy Half Dollars housed in a custom-designed folder, representing all three mints that struck the coin: a Kennedy Half Dollar struck in either 1965 or 1966 at the Philadelphia Mint, a Kennedy Half Dollar struck from 1968 to 1970 at the Denver Mint, and a Kennedy Half Dollar struck from 1968 to 1970 at the San Francisco Mint. Get your 1965–1970 Kennedy Half Dollar Mint Mark Three-Piece Set of 40% silver Kennedy Half Dollars now!

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • POPULAR DESIGN OF A FALLEN PRESIDENT – Featuring U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Gilroy Roberts’ bust of President John F. Kennedy, the Kennedy Half-Dollar was first struck in 1964 and was originally meant to be a one-year-only tribute to the fallen President. It proved to be so popular, however, that the U.S. Mint has issued it every year since. The coin’s reverse is a modified design of the Presidential Seal by Frank Gasparro, who replaced Roberts as the U.S. Mint’s Chief Engraver in 1965.
  • STRUCK IN SILVER – Kennedy Half Dollars issued from 1965 to 1969 were struck in 11.5 grams of 40% silver. No half dollars were struck for circulation in 1970 and beginning in 1971 they were issued as nickel-clad copper coins. The Kennedy Half Dollar was the only coin in circulation at that time to contain silver.
  • COMPLETE SILVER KENNEDY MINT MARK SET – This 1965–1970 Kennedy Half Dollar Three-Piece Set includes a coin from each mint that struck the coin in 40% silver between 1965 and 1970: Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco.
  • UNITED STATES LEGAL TENDER – Kennedy Half Dollars are 50 cents legal tender in the United States and measure 30.6 mm in diameter.
