Three Mint Set Kennedy Half Dollars

In November of 1963, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated. To honor the fallen president, the United States Mint struck a special Kennedy Half Dollar in 1964. Americans lined the streets outside the Treasury Building for their chance to own an uncirculated version of the coin. In fact, the coin proved to be so popular that the Mint permanently replaced the Franklin Half Dollar with the Kennedy Half Dollar and has been struck ever since!

San Francisco Mint Coin With No Mint Mark!

Here you can secure three Kennedy Half Dollars that were struck in 40% silver and were part of the 1965, 1966, and 1967 special mint sets. Each coin boasts a gorgeous satin finish, and they range in grade in About Uncirculated to Brilliant Uncirculated (AU–BU) condition. Here’s another interesting fact about these coins: they do not have a mint mark, which would suggest that they were struck at the Philadelphia Mint, but they were actually struck at the San Francisco Mint! COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • POPULAR DESIGN OF A FALLEN PRESIDENT – Featuring U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Gilroy Roberts’ bust of President John F. Kennedy, the Kennedy Half-Dollar was first struck in 1964 and was originally meant to be a one-year-only tribute to the fallen President. It proved to be so popular, however, that the U.S. Mint has issued it every year since. The coin’s reverse is a modified design of the Presidential Seal by Frank Gasparro, who replaced Roberts as the U.S. Mint’s Chief Engraver in 1965.
  • STRUCK IN SILVER – Kennedy Half Dollars issued from 1965 to 1969 were struck in 11.5 grams of 40% silver. No half dollars were struck for circulation in 1970 and beginning in 1971 they were issued as nickel-clad copper coins. It was the only coin in circulation at that time to contain silver.
  • UNITED STATES LEGAL TENDER – Kennedy Half Dollars are 50 cents legal tender in the United States and measure 30.6 mm in diameter.
