1954-PDS Franklin Half Dollar 3-pc Set BU
1954 Franklin Half Dollar 3-Mint Set
The last half dollar series to be completely struck in highly pure 90% fine silver, the Franklin Half Dollar features one of America’s greatest patriots and the only non-president to be featured on a United States circulating coin—Ben Franklin. It replaced the Walking Liberty Half Dollar series which ended in 1947 and was struck until being unexpectedly ended in 1963 after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy when the U.S. Mint decided to pay tribute to JFK following his assassination. Here you have a three-piece set of Franklin Half Dollars from 1954 struck by all three mints that struck the coin that year—Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. This set is significant because this was the last year the San Francisco Mint struck the coin! Plus, each comes in sought-after Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. Hurry!
COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- SHORT-LIVED HALF DOLLAR SERIES – The Franklin Half Dollar was issued from only 1948 to 1963, making it one of the shortest-lived series of the 20th century. This three-piece set consists of 1954 Franklin Half Dollars from the three mints that struck it that year: Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. This is also the last year that the San Francisco Mint struck the coin.
- BELOVED COIN DESIGN – With an obverse portrait of Founding Father Benjamin Franklin designed by John R. Sinnock and a Liberty Bell reverse designed by Gilroy Roberts, the eighth and ninth Chief Engravers of the U.S. Mint respectively, the Franklin Half Dollar is an exquisitely designed coin that is popular among collectors.
- STRUCK IN HIGHLY PURE SILVER – Franklin Half Dollars were struck in 12.5 grams of 90% fine silver and measure 30.6 mm in diameter.
- BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Your Silver Franklin Half Dollars will come in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition.
- UNITED STATES LEGAL TENDER – Though they have not been issued in more than half a century, Franklin Half dollars are still accepted as legal tender, though their collector value far exceeds their 50 cents legal-tender denomination!
Franklin Half Dollars are attractive coins gaining in collector popularity thanks to their rich history, silver content and nice size. Here’s your chance to start or add to your collection with three 1954-dated Franklin Half Dollars—one each struck at the Philadelphia (no mint mark), Denver (“D” mint mark), and San Francisco (“S” mint mark) Mints.
