1923 Peace Silver Dollar Mint Sets
In 1921, the U.S. Mint celebrated a new status of world peace with the Peace Silver Dollar. Struck in High Relief and intended as a one-year-only release, it proved incredibly popular, and so the following year a standard relief version was struck for circulation. This three-coin set brings together every mint mark from the second year of the standard relief Peace Silver Dollar struck in 1923. You’ll receive one coin each from the Philadelphia Mint, Denver Mint and San Francisco Mint.
A Beautiful Symbol of Peace
The Peace Silver Dollar was designed by 33-year-old Italian-American sculptor Anthony De Francisci, who used his wife, Teresa Cafarelli, as his model for Lady Liberty. The design presents Lady Liberty wearing a crown of rays on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle holding the olive branches of peace, rather than the typical olive branches and arrows of war. The coin's original reverse showed an eagle breaking a sword to symbolize disarmament at the end of the war. Mint officials were concerned this depiction would signify defeat and had the sword removed. The result was a beautiful symbol of peace for the ages!
Each coin in this set was struck in 90% fine silver and comes in Extremely Fine (XF) condition with complete details and only minor wear on some of the coin’s high points. Plus, each coin will come in its own numismatic capsule and the entire set will be houses in a custom display box that includes a storycard about the Peace Dollar and a Certificate of Authenticity.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- LAST CIRCULATING SILVER DOLLAR – Peace Silver Dollars were struck from 1921-1928 and again in 1934 & 1934 in 1923 and were the last silver dollars struck for circulation in the United States.
- RICH IN SYMBOLISM – The Peace Dollars were struck to commemorate the peace following the end of World War I. The design presents Lady Liberty wearing a crown of rays on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle holding the olive branches of peace, rather than the typical olive branches and arrows of war.
- STRUCK IN HIGHLY PURE SILVER – These coins were struck at the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints in 26.73 grams of 90% fine silver and measure 38.1 mm in diameter.
- UNITED STATES LEGAL TENDER – Peace Silvers Dollars were $1 legal tender in the United States.
- EXTREMELY FINE CONDITION – Each coin in this 1923-PDS Peace Silver Dollar Three-Piece Set will come in nice Extremely Fine (XF) condition.
- PEACE DOLLARS BECOMING SCARCE – Placed directly into circulation, most Peace Silver Dollars are heavily worn. Hundreds of thousands of these classic coins were melted during the “Great Melting Pot” of 1980 when silver hit $50 an ounce. The ensuing carnage decreased the known number of surviving Peace Dollars.
