The First Three Silver Dollars From The Denver Mint

2021 is the centennial of the last Morgan Silver Dollar and the first Peace Silver Dollar, an anniversary that has caused demand for both series to skyrocket. But that’s only one of many reasons that the set available here is red hot — not the least of which is the fact that these coins represent the first three silver dollars ever struck at the Denver Mint. Yes, you’re right… this IS a big deal!

Morgan Silver Dollars From The Denver Mint

Silver dollars from the Denver Mint were years in the making. While the branch mint in Denver struck its first coins in 1906, it wasn’t until 1921 that it got the chance to strike silver dollars for the first time. The Morgan Silver Dollar series had seemingly ceased in 1904, too late for the Denver Mint to strike it. Then in 1921, The Mint struck Morgans for one last time in 1921 making the 1921-D Morgan the ONLY year the Denver Mint struck this series making it a highly coveted issue.

The Denver Mint Gets A “Peace” Of The Action

Later in 1921, the United States Mint unveiled the new Peace Silver Dollar featuring a design paying homage to the end of World War I. The “Mother Mint” in Philadelphia Mint was the only Mint to strike this series that first year in what turned out to be an ill-fated high-relief test. The Peace Dollar was struck with a lower relief beginning in 1922 with other branch mints being called into service. The Denver Mint was one of those mints that answered the bell and struck Peace Dollars in both 1922 and 1923. The Denver Mint ultimately struck Peace Dollars for only five years producing just 14% of all Peace Dollars ever struck total. That’s the lowest production from any Mint and just one more reason why Peace Dollars with a “D” mint mark are highly sought-after.

This fantastic set not only includes the first three silver dollars ever struck at the Denver Mint, but each comes in nice Extremely Fine (XF) condition with complete details and only minor wear. Don’t let this important set pass you by. Secure one for your collection right now!

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • CLASSIC MORGAN DESIGNS – The Morgan Silver Dollar — so named for its designer, U.S. Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan — has stood the test of time. It shows a profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse while the reverse features an eagle with outstretched wings.
  • FAMOUS PEACE SILVER DOLLAR – While not produced in the same numbers as the Morgan Silver Dollar, the Peace Silver Dollar series has seen its reputation grow with each passing year. Designed by Anthony de Francisci, it features a design of Lady Liberty on the obverse and a perched eagle on the reverse.
  • STRUCK IN GLEAMING AMERICAN SILVER – Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars were struck in 26.73 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver and measures 38.1 mm in diameter.
  • LEGAL TENDER SILVER DOLLARS – These coins were $1 legal and circulated widely throughout the Roaring ’20s and Great Depression.
  • EXTREMELY FINE CONDITION – The coins in this set will all come in Extremely Fine (XF) condition with complete details and only minor wear.
  • THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING MORGANS – While millions of Morgan Silver Dollars were struck from 1878 through 1921, massive silver meltings and the ravages of time have taken their toll. Today coin experts believe that only 15% of all Morgans ever struck remain in existence!
  • PEACE DOLLARS BECOMING SCARCE – Placed directly into circulation, most Peace Silver Dollars are heavily worn. Hundreds of thousands of these classic coins were melted during the “Great Melting Pot” of 1980 when silver hit $50 an ounce in 1980. The ensuing carnage decreased the known number of surviving Peace Dollars.
