At the age of 20, Alexander III started his reign as the king of Macedonia after the death of his father, King Philip II. Over the course of a few short years, Alexander III would conquer all of Greece, the Mideast, and Persia through brilliant military strategy. As a direct scholar of Aristotle, Alexander III spread Greek culture and ideas throughout his kingdom. It features the head of Hercules facing right on the obverse and Zeus on a throne and holding an eagle on the reverse.
