Celebrating 50 Years Of The Roosevelt Dime
Following the untimely death of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1945, the United States Mint decided to honor his service and leadership through the turbulent years of the Great Depression and World War II by putting his effigy on the dime. Throughout the Roosevelt Dime’s existence from 1946 to 1964, it was struck in highly pure 90% silver, making those early years of the popular coin a favorite among collectors. In 1965, the United States began removing silver from American coinage. Dimes were included in this legislation.
A Popular Coin Honoring A Popular President
This two-piece set contains both a first-year-of-issue silver Roosevelt Dime from 1946, and a copper-nickel (CuNi) Roosevelt Dime from 1996, which was struck at the West Point Mint to commemorate the coin’s 50th anniversary! The first Roosevelt Dime was released into circulation on January 30, 1946, to coincide with what would have been FDR’s 64th birthday. Because Roosevelt suffered from polio and had helped found the March of Dimes to fight the disease, using his likeness on the dime was the obvious way to honor the popular president. Beautifully designed by John R. Sinnock, the design has remained unchanged ever since.
Both coins will arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition, which means they still possess much of their original mint luster. Secure your set now!
