1935-S Peace Silver Dollar 3 Rays/4 Rays 2-pc Set VG
Three Rays or Four? Why Not Both?
America’s Peace Silver Dollar was intended as a one-year-only celebration of World War I’s end, but the series ran from 1921 to 1928 and again in 1934 and 1935. This set of San Francisco Mint-struck Peace Dollars come from the final year of the series, but for unknown reasons the mint created two versions of the coin: one version with three sun rays below the “ONE” on the reverse, and one version with an additional fourth ray. This is the only mint and date to feature the 4 Rays variant, which is considered scarce.
We’ve brought together one of each, along with a coin magnifier for you to examine the difference for yourself. Plus, if you look closely, you can also see a seventh ray that was added beneath the eagle’s tail feathers — another unique design element to this mysterious coin. No one knows the true origin of this final-year-of-issue change, but now you can explore the mystery for yourself! Each coin available here comes in nice Very Good (VG) condition, perfect for your collection and an addition that’s sure to be a talking point for many years to come!
- FAMOUS PEACE SILVER DOLLAR – While not produced in the same numbers as the Morgan Silver Dollar, the Peace Silver Dollar series has seen its reputation grow with each passing year. Designed by Anthony de Francisci, it features a design of Lady Liberty on the obverse and a perched eagle on the reverse. It was struck from only 1921 to 1928 and again in 1934 and 1935.
- KEY LAST-YEAR-OF-ISSUE WITH UNIQUE DESIGN FEATURES – These coins are from the last year the series was issued. The set includes the regular “3 Rays” variety and the scarce “4 Rays” version that features a fourth ray added below the word “ONE” and a seventh ray added beneath the eagle’s tail feathers.
- STRUCK IN FINE SILVER – Each Peace Silver Dollar was struck in 26.73 grams of highly pure 90% silver and measures 38.1 mm in diameter.
- LEGAL TENDER U.S. COINAGE – These coins were $1 legal tender in the United States and circulated widely during the Depression-era ’30s.
- NICE VERY GOOD CONDITION – Each Peace Dollar in this two-piece last-year-of-issue set will come in nice Very Good (VG) condition.
The Peace Dollar was America’s last dollar series struck entirely in 90% fine silver. Don’t miss your chance to obtain a two-piece set from the last year the series was issued!
