Low-Mintage Lincoln Pennies From The First And Second Years Of Issue

The Lincoln Cent was designed by famed sculptor Victor David Brenner and was first struck in 1909 to observe the 100th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth in 1809. Unlike today’s Lincoln Pennies that are struck in copper-plated zinc, these first-year coins were struck in 95% copper—and would be until 1982 except for 1943 when they were struck in steel during World War II.

Lincoln Pennies From The San Francisco Mint

Struck continuously for more than 110 years, the Lincoln Cent is one of America’s most popular coins. Issued for more than 110 years, the Lincoln Cent is the longest continuously running series within United States coinage. Unfortunately, many Lincoln Penny collectors find it easier to fill in the 1940s- and 1950s-dated issues than the early dates of the series. That’s what makes this two-piece set consisting of the second and third year of issue for this series—1910 and 1911 Lincoln Pennies from the San Francisco Mint—so special.

Nice, Very Good To Fine Condition

Of all 140 different issues of Lincoln Wheatback Cents ever struck by the United States Mint, the 1911-S has the sixth lowest mintage, and the 1910-S has the 12th lowest mintage. At the same time during those two years, the Philadelphia Mint struck more than 247 million Lincoln Pennies while the San Francisco Mint struck just 10 million! In addition, these 1910-S and 1911-S Lincoln Wheatback Cents available here each come in nice, Very Good to Fine (VG–F) condition.

Many a coin collector was introduced to the hobby through the Lincoln Penny, and here you have a chance to re-introduce yourself to why you love collecting so much or start another young collector on his or her path towards year of enjoyment in then hobby.
