1909 LAST Year Indian And FIRST Year Lincoln Cents

This two-piece set consists of two 1909 Pennies—a last year of issue 1909-P Indian Cent and a first year of issue 1909-P Lincoln Cent complete with designer Victor David Brenner’s scandalous “VBD” initials, both in Extremely Fine (XF) condition. The Indian Cent was minted from 1859 to 1909, and the Lincoln Cent is still minted today, the longest-running U.S. coin design in history. The inclusion of Brenner’s initials led to complaints that this was a show of vanity, so the U.S. Mint removed the initials later that year. Unlike the cents struck today, the 1909 cents were struck in 95% copper, giving them a different look than contemporary pennies. Limited availability, so order now!

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • THE LAST-EVER INDIAN HEAD CENT – The Indian Head Cent was designed by James B. Longacre, the U.S. Mint’s 4th Chief Engraver, and features Miss Liberty with a beaded necklace and a hair band emblazoned with a diamond. It was issued from 1859 to 1909.
  • THE FIRST-EVER LINCOLN CENT – The Lincoln Cent was designed by famed sculptor Victor David Brenner and was first struck in 1909 to observe the 100th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth in 1809.
  • STRUCK IN LUSTROUS COPPER – Unlike today’s Lincoln Pennies that are struck in copper-plated zinc, these coins were struck in 95% copper—and the Lincoln Cent would continue to be struck in coper until 1982 except for 1943 when they were struck in steel during World War II.
  • UNITED STATES LEGAL TENDER – These coins are one cent legal tender in the United States.
  • EXTREMELY FINE CONDITION – Each coin in your 1909-P Indian & Lincoln Cent Two-Piece Set will come in Extremely Fine (XF) condition—remarkable for coins that are more than 110 years old from a series that has seen heavy circulation over the past century.

Here are the coins that got many people interested in the hobby—it’s a two-piece set that consists of the last-ever Indian Head Cent and the first-ever Lincoln Cent both struck in 1909. Get these historic and collectible coins now in Extremely Fine condition!
