Last Two Barber Quarters Of The 19th Century!

More than 100 years ago, the Barber Quarter lined the pockets of Americans. Struck from 1892 to 1916, it displays Liberty in profile on the obverse and a proud eagle on the reverse. This classic U.S. Quarter design may exist solely due to one man’s ego.

The U.S. Mint’s Egotistic Barber

In 1892, it was time for the U.S. Mint to strike a new 90% silver quarter. The Chief Engraver at the time, Charles Barber, was part of the panel that reviewed more than 300 submissions from the public as well as leading artists and sculptors. Barber voted against them all—except for one, his own!

Here you have the last two Barber Quarters of the 19th Century, in Good to Very Good (G-VG) condition. Because many of these classic coins were worn down in commerce or were melted for their 90% fine silver content, you can understand why supplies are limited, so act fast! Mint marks vary.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • FAMOUS BARBER DESIGN – This famous coin was designed by Charles E. Barber, the 6th Chief Engraver at the United States Mint. It depicts Miss Liberty wearing a crown made of olive branches with a small headband inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The same design was also used on dime and half dollar coins that circulated at the same time.
  • LAST BARBER QUARTERS OF THE 19th CENTURY – This set brings together the last two Barber Quarters of the 19 Century, coins struck in 1899 and 1900. Mint marks will vary.
  • STRUCK IN FINE SILVER – Barber Quarters were struck in 6.25 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver and measure 24.3 mm in diameter.
  • UNITED STATES LEGAL TENDER – Struck from 1892-1916, the Barber Quarter was 25 cents legal tender in the United States at a time when 25 cents could pay for two gallons of gas to fuel up the ol’ Model T.
  • GOOD TO VERY GOOD CONDITION – These coins come in Good to Very Good (G–VG) condition, meaning they were used in commerce at the Turn of the Century and on through World War I.
