Civil War-Era Indian Head Cents Set!

On April 12, 1861, Confederate forces fired upon Fort Sumter, starting off what would be four years and 31 days of the American Civil War. During the war from 1861 to 1864, the United States Mint struck “Indian Head” one-cent coins which soon disappeared from circulation as frightened citizens began to hoard them for their metal contents. In response, the U.S. Mint changed the coin’s composition to bronze in 1864. Here you can secure both the copper-nickel AND the 1864 bronze version.

Two-Piece Civil War Set With A Bullet!

These coins were named Indian Head Cents because the portrait of Lady Liberty on the obverse shows her wearing an Indian headdress, which led the general public to incorrectly identify the image as an “Indian Head.” The reverse features a laurel wreath tied at the base. First struck in 1859, the Indian Head Cent would go on to become one of the most beloved vintage coins in U.S. history. Minted from 1859 to 1909, these coins propelled innumerable young people into a lifelong hobby of coin collecting. Both coins available here come in nice, Good to Fine (G–F) condition, dated between 1861 and 1864. You’ll also receive a storybook on Civil War coinage and an authentic Civil War bullet! Order now!
