1966-P Kennedy Half Dollar 20-pc Banker’s Roll BU
Banker’s Rolls Of Kennedy Half Dollars
Here you have a 20-piece Banker’s Roll of Kennedy Half Dollars struck at the Philadelphia Mint in the original bank-wrapped paper that was used more than 50 years ago. These coins have been stored for decades and are as fresh as they day they were struck. November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. To pay tribute to the beloved American President, Congress authorized the abrupt ending of the Franklin Half Dollar series, replacing it with the Kennedy Half Dollar.
The Numismatic Legend Of The Kennedy Half Dollar
The story of the Kennedy Half Dollar is now numismatic legend. After the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in November of 1963, Congress moved quickly to ensure that the United States Mint would be able to create new half dollars featuring the former president’s profile along with the Presidential Seal. Intended as a one-year-only issue, the coins were released in January of the following year just a few short months after JFK’s passing. Many don’t know that the design on the obverse was hand-picked by the president’s wife Jackie Kennedy! The design proved to be so popular that it permanently replaced the existing Benjamin Franklin Half Dollar, and Kennedy has remained the face of the denomination ever since and celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2024.
America’s Last Circulating Coins Struck In Silver
The Kennedy Half Dollar was the only circulating coin in the 1960s to contain silver. While the first Kennedy Half Dollar was struck in 90% silver, the Mint reduced the silver content to 40% in 1965—where it stayed until 1970 when the Mint again changed the content to clad. (No Kennedy Half Dollars were struck for circulation in 1970.) Here you can secure a 20-coin “Banker’s Roll” of 40% silver Kennedy Half Dollars struck in 1966 at the Philadelphia Mint. Plus, each coin will come in mouthwatering Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. Get yours now!
COIN HIGHLIGHTS:
- POPULAR DESIGN OF A FALLEN PRESIDENT – Featuring U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Gilroy Roberts’ bust of President John F. Kennedy, the Kennedy Half-Dollar was first struck in 1964 and was originally meant to be a one-year-only tribute to the fallen President. It proved to be so popular, however, that the U.S. Mint has issued it every year since. The coin’s reverse is a modified design of the Presidential Seal by Frank Gasparro, who replaced Roberts as the U.S. Mint’s Chief Engraver in 1965.
- STRUCK IN SILVER – Kennedy Half Dollars issued from 1965 to 1969 were struck in 11.5 grams of 40% silver. No half dollars were struck for circulation in 1970 and beginning in 1971 they were issued as nickel-clad copper coins. It was the only coin in circulation at that time to contain silver.
- UNITED STATES LEGAL TENDER – Kennedy Half Dollars are 50 cents legal tender in the United States and measure 30.6 mm in diameter.
- BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED CONDITION – Each coin in your 1966-P Kennedy Half Dollar 20-Piece Banker’s Roll will come in gleaming Brilliant Uncirculated condition still in its original bank-wrapped paper.
