2021 Japan Gold Cherry Blossom Viewing Proof
Japan’s 2021 Cherry Blossom Gold Proof Is Ready To Bloom In Your Collection
The significance for Japan’s reverent devotion to cherry blossoms goes back several centuries. For the Japanese people, cherry blossoms represent the fragility of life — a poignant reminder that life, while very beautiful, is also tragically short. So, it was with a heavy heart that many cherry blossom festivals scheduled in 2021 were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Perhaps the most painful cancelation was the Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival in Shizuoka Prefecture. With its 850 sakura cherry trees, the festival annually attracts more than 900,000 visitors between February and March and adds around $200 million to the region’s coffers.
There was one small consolation, however: the Japan Mint continued to issue its annual Cherry Blossom Viewing Coins. Among those pieces released in 2021 was this incredible one-year-only Gold Viewing Medal!
Cherry Blossom Viewing Medals Struck In Pure Gold
Though not legal tender, it was struck in 95 grams — more than 3 ounces — of 99.9% pure gold! This beautiful medal measures 40 mm in diameter and features the Yokihi, 2021’s Blossom of the Year. The medal’s obverse features a young nymph drinking in the sweet aroma of Yokihi cherry blossoms as they open. Her lovely young face has been rendered in detail so exquisite you’ll almost expect her to open her eyes and smile at you! The medal’s reverse features a bouquet of Yokihi cherry blossoms along with the year date and inscriptions in Japanese that read, “Cherry Blossom Viewing,” “Yokihi” and “Made by the Japan Mint.”
Fabulous Proof Condition & Original Mint Packaging
Each medal also comes in fabulous proof condition, meaning that they were expertly crafted by the mint from hand-selected planchets, polished dies and multiple strikes to produce beautifully frosted details rising over mirror-like fields. Each will also come in its original packaging from the Japan Mint that consists of a genuine leather case shipped inside a box embossed with the medal’s design.
You Must Order Soon: Only 5 Gold Medals Available Outside Japan!
