2021 Australia 25₵ 1/4-oz Silver Sydney Show Lunar Year of the Ox Colorized Coin BU
No Show, No Problem — Australia’s 2021 Lunar Coin Pays Tribute to the Powerful Ox
In a normal year, collectors attending the Australian Numismatic Dealers Association (ANDA) Money Expo would be treated to exclusive releases and sneak peaks at new coins set to be released in the coming year. But thanks to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, this 2020 Money Expo scheduled October 24–25 in Sydney was canceled. Undaunted, Australia’s prestigious Perth Mint has is now making the coins that had been intended for the Expo available to eager collectors.
Symbol of Beauty and Love in Chinese Culture
One of those coins is this 2021 Silver Lunar Year of the Ox Colorized Coin. Struck in a quarter ounce of highly pure 99.99% silver, this legal tender 25-cent coin depicts an ox with its calf rendered in full color while in the background a bucolic village can be seen nestled at the foot of a mountain range. Above the ox is the Chinese symbol for “Ox” and the branch of blossoming cherry tree, a symbol of feminine beauty and love in Chinese culture. The warm color is the perfect match to the coin’s Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) finish that’s as sharp and crisp as the day it left the mint. You can even see the famous “P” mint mark just to the right of the mother ox.
Part of Australia’s Third Lunar Coin Series
This coin is part of the second release in Australia’s Lunar Series III program that celebrates animals in the Chinese zodiac. Persistent, stubborn, honest, moody and quick-tempered — these are traits embodied by the Ox, a domesticated animal that has toiled in the fields of China for centuries. Seemingly able to endure almost anything, they seldom fear any hardships or difficulty. And, as a symbol of spring and fertility the ox is revered among the animals of China’s lunar calendar.
Each coin will come in its original government packaging from the mint consisting of 2020 Sydney Money Expo Card that displays the words 2020 SYDNEY MONEY EXPO ANDA SPECIAL and the dates of the event.
