Benjamin Franklin is without a doubt one of the most influential Founding Fathers in the history of the United States. Not only was he the only person to sign all four major documents instrumental to the nation’s founding — the Constitution, the Treaty of Paris, the Treaty of Alliance, and Amity and Commerce — but he also designed the first dollar authorized by Congress, the 1776 Continental Dollar.

The Tercentenary Of An Iconic Founding Father

To pay tribute to this remarkable patriot, the U.S. Mint struck a pair of one-year-only silver dollars in 2006 that commemorated the 300th anniversary of his birth. One of these “Tercentenary” dollars honored his achievement as a scientist and the other celebrates his role as a Founding Father. The one available in this offer is the Founding Father variety that features Ben’s head and shoulders with his signature reproduced below. The coin’s reverse shows a reproduction of his 1776 Continental Dollar with its famous sundial design.

Fine Silver From The Mother Mint

These coins were struck in 90% fine silver by the “Mother Mint” in Philadelphia in both Proof and Uncirculated versions. The coin available here is the coveted Uncirculated version with a mintage of just 58,000 that was more than two times smaller than the Proof version.
