Early on in the five-week-long battle, a group of Marines raised the American flag atop Mount Suribachi, and the photograph of the moment that was snapped by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal has since become an immortal symbol of the struggle for freedom. The coin’s reverse features the USMC’s Eagle, Globe and Anchor emblem
• Next up is a forest green postage stamp that features the same iconic image issued less than five months after the Marines took Iwo Jima.
• The final piece of the collection is a capsule of sand taken from a beach at Iwo Jima and certified as certified as genuine. This is the first time that Iwo Jima sand has been included in set!
