2004-P $1 Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Silver Dollar Proof
In Tribute To Captains Lewis & Clark
In 1804, shortly after the completion of the Louisiana Purchase between France and the United States, Captains Merriweather Lewis and William Clark set out on the first American expedition to cross the nation’s expansive newly acquired western territory. Over the course of two-and-a half years, they traveled from Pittsburgh to the Pacific Ocean—but they didn’t go alone. Along the way they met a Lemhi Shoshone woman named Sacagawea who would travel thousands of miles with the pair and help them establish cultural contacts with the Native American people they met along the way.
