1980-S $1 Susan B. Anthony Proof 10-Pack
Ten Susan B. Anthony Dollar Proofs
Introduced by the United States Mint with much fanfare in 1979, the Susan B. Anthony Dollar was gone in the blink of the eye. The first-ever small-sized dollar coin, the SBA Dollar was also the first U.S. circulating coin to feature an identifiable woman —social reformer and women’s right advocate Susan B. Anthony. It was intended to replace the dollar bill but was doomed almost from the start and never caught on with the public.
America’s Infamous “Carter Quarters”
Nicknamed the “Carter Quarter” because its authorization was signed into law by President Jimmy Carter in 1978, the coin’s size and color unfortunately made it too easily confused with a Washington Quarter. Today, the much-ballyhooed — and much maligned — coin is a collector favorite thanks to its short three-year minting period from 1979 to 1981. (It was minted one last time in 1999 due to a shortage of cons needed for United States Post Office stamp-dispensing machines and vending machines operated by many mass-transit systems and vending-machine operations across the country.)
