The Legend of the “Blue Ikes”

The Eisenhower “Ike” Dollar was America’s last large-sized dollar minted for circulation. It also lasted for just eight years, from 1971 to 1978. But while these coins were struck from copper-nickel, a small number of 40% fine silver Ike Dollars were also struck by the U.S. Mint just for collectors. Those offered here have been dubbed the “Blue Ikes” due to the blue packaging they originally came in. And, as the first — and last — 40% silver dollars in United States Mint history, these historic coins hold a special place in every collection.

Blue Ikes Still In Their Original Packaging!

These are the first regular-issue Ike Dollars struck in 40% silver at the San Francisco Mint. Each coin available here was struck from 1971 to 1974 — a four-year span from San Francisco that represents only 2% of all the regular-issue Ike Dollars ever minted, making them hard to find today. In addition, each Ike Dollar offered here comes in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition still in its original blue packaging!
