The ONLY Place to Get 1970 Kennedy Half Dollars Struck in Silver!
Officially, the John F. Kennedy Half Dollar struck in silver was issued from 1964 through 1969. But in 1970, while U.S. Mint officials were as waiting for legislation that would change the half dollar from being 40% silver to simply clad, they still needed to strike coins for their Mint and Proof Sets. That makes these two sets the only way to own both 1970 Kennedy Half Dollars in 40% silver. Because of this, many of these sets have been broken up for their contents, but we have a limited number of complete sets that also include the cent, nickel, dime and quarter. Look elsewhere and you could pay up to $85.50 for both sets – order now and save over $35!
The ten coins in the 1970 Mint Set were sealed in two pliofilm flat packs. Coins from the Denver Mint were placed together in one of the packs, and the coins from the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints P were placed together in another. A disk identifying the Denver Mint was included along with the D-Mint coins. The pack containing the D-Mint coins was edged in red; the pack containing the P- and S-Mint coins was edged in blue. The two pliofilm packs and two pieces of thin cardboard (for protection) were sealed in an officially inscribed mailing envelope.
The individual coins of the five-coin 1970 Proof Set were placed into holes in a black plastic insert, then sealed in a two-piece, clear plastic case. The case was then inserted into a protective outer cover consisting of blue cardboard, imprinted with the words: "United States Proof Set • 1970." Struck at the San Francisco Mint, the coins in the 1970 Proof Set are beautiful with Brilliant, Cameo, and Deep Cameo surfaces. Deep Cameo Proof coins are the most desirable of the three finishes.
