1960s Early Pull Tab Type Steel Coca-Cola Can

Coca-Cola® is one of the most recognizable brands in the world. What began as a local beverage in an Atlanta, Georgia soda fountain in 1886 has become an integral part of American culture and spawned a company whose products are enjoyed 1.7 billion times a day. That enjoyment extends to collectors. Coca-Cola collector organizations exist around the world, with an annual convention held in the United States every year. And these collectors mean serious business: vintage Coca-Cola memorabilia can go for more than $100,000 on the collector market!

No Opener Needed for This Early Can of Coke

Recently, we’ve established a relationship with one of the nation’s top Coca-Cola memorabilia dealers, and so we’ve worked to bring you a fantastic selection of historic pieces we think you’ll really enjoy. This offering is a 12-ounce Coca-Cola steel can from the early 1960s that features one of the first roll-tab tops, as well as bright red coloring and, just in case there was any confusion about its contents, a picture of the classic Coca-Cola bottle on the side.

Back in the 1950s, a man working at the Iron City Brewery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania went to a company picnic. In those days, drinks were stored in steel cans, not aluminum, and required a can opener. Unfortunately for the brewery worker, he had forgotten his. Frustrated, he designed the first version of the self-opening tab can! Those of us old enough remember these cans — you pull the tab off, and then were faced with the decision of whether to toss it out, or let it fall back into the can and risk swallowing it if you drank too fast!

There’s no real Coca-Cola collection without at least a few cans, and this excellent piece is a great place to start, as it represents a new beginning for those wishing to enjoy the taste of Coca-Cola on the go. It also comes in fantastic condition, with the bright red color shining almost as if it were made yesterday. And yet it’s survived more than 50 years, just to be added to your collection. A must-have!
