1946-D Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar VF
Lowest Mintage 1940s Walking Liberty
The Walking Liberty Half Dollar — affectionately known to many collectors as a “Walker” — is surely one of the most beautiful coins ever struck by the U.S. Mint. In fact, the Walking Liberty obverse is so iconic and beloved that it was resurrected in 1986 as the obverse for today’s Silver Eagles! But what we have here is not just any Walker, but a key date coin struck just one year after the end of World War II!
In the 1940s, the lowest mintage of these classic coins was the Walking Liberty Half Dollar struck in 1946 at the Denver Mint. Only 2.151 million of these beautiful 1946-D Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars were produced by the Denver Mint, compared to the 3.724 million struck at the San Francisco Mint and the 12.118 million struck at the “Mother Mint” in Philadelphia. That’s why when we were recently given first right of refusal on a small hoard of these low-mintage coins we quickly snapped them up. Now you can secure one for your collection at a great price in Very Fine (VF) condition!
